- CW-CNN & CW-AN: Convolutional Networks and Attention Networks for CW-Complexes We present a novel framework for learning on CW-complex structured data points. Recent advances have discussed CW-complexes as ideal learning representations for problems in cheminformatics. However, there is a lack of available machine learning methods suitable for learning on CW-complexes. In this paper we develop notions of convolution and attention that are well defined for CW-complexes. These notions enable us to create the first Hodge informed neural network that can receive a CW-complex as input. We illustrate and interpret this framework in the context of supervised prediction. 1 authors · Aug 29, 2024
- Families of Optimal Transport Kernels for Cell Complexes Recent advances have discussed cell complexes as ideal learning representations. However, there is a lack of available machine learning methods suitable for learning on CW complexes. In this paper, we derive an explicit expression for the Wasserstein distance between cell complex signal distributions in terms of a Hodge-Laplacian matrix. This leads to a structurally meaningful measure to compare CW complexes and define the optimal transportation map. In order to simultaneously include both feature and structure information, we extend the Fused Gromov-Wasserstein distance to CW complexes. Finally, we introduce novel kernels over the space of probability measures on CW complexes based on the dual formulation of optimal transport. 1 authors · Jul 22, 2025
1 STEREOFOG -- Computational DeFogging via Image-to-Image Translation on a real-world Dataset Image-to-Image translation (I2I) is a subtype of Machine Learning (ML) that has tremendous potential in applications where two domains of images and the need for translation between the two exist, such as the removal of fog. For example, this could be useful for autonomous vehicles, which currently struggle with adverse weather conditions like fog. However, datasets for I2I tasks are not abundant and typically hard to acquire. Here, we introduce STEREOFOG, a dataset comprised of 10,067 paired fogged and clear images, captured using a custom-built device, with the purpose of exploring I2I's potential in this domain. It is the only real-world dataset of this kind to the best of our knowledge. Furthermore, we apply and optimize the pix2pix I2I ML framework to this dataset. With the final model achieving an average Complex Wavelet-Structural Similarity (CW-SSIM) score of 0.76, we prove the technique's suitability for the problem. 2 authors · Dec 4, 2023
1 Table2LaTeX-RL: High-Fidelity LaTeX Code Generation from Table Images via Reinforced Multimodal Language Models In this work, we address the task of table image to LaTeX code generation, with the goal of automating the reconstruction of high-quality, publication-ready tables from visual inputs. A central challenge of this task lies in accurately handling complex tables -- those with large sizes, deeply nested structures, and semantically rich or irregular cell content -- where existing methods often fail. We begin with a comprehensive analysis, identifying key challenges and highlighting the limitations of current evaluation protocols. To overcome these issues, we propose a reinforced multimodal large language model (MLLM) framework, where a pre-trained MLLM is fine-tuned on a large-scale table-to-LaTeX dataset. To further improve generation quality, we introduce a dual-reward reinforcement learning strategy based on Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO). Unlike standard approaches that optimize purely over text outputs, our method incorporates both a structure-level reward on LaTeX code and a visual fidelity reward computed from rendered outputs, enabling direct optimization of the visual output quality. We adopt a hybrid evaluation protocol combining TEDS-Structure and CW-SSIM, and show that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance, particularly on structurally complex tables, demonstrating the effectiveness and robustness of our approach. 11 authors · Sep 22, 2025
